I am starting a petition to save the Glade. If you have been following my work, you are aware that this is a space in Castle Rock Colorado that is under threat of development. It is a very unique space with an important ecological role as well as unique geological formations. I am petitioning to have this space preserved for posterity. Please take a moment to sign and to pass this on.

On one side, the approaching storm, threatening with the weight of snow. On the other side, the moving away of the warmth, yet with an image of hope hidden within. Three points of light, reminders that the sun will return, the weight of snow will become life-giving in its time. We can choose the perspective we wish to hold on to.

The other day I was at my kid’s school to pick him up. The school happens to be next to the Glade, which is nice because I can see her everyday. But as I was waiting, two big trucks drove in past the gate and parked at the entrance to the glade. I had time fortunately, so I walked up to ask what was happening. They were there to take down some old telephone poles that are no longer in use. He casually said, “yah there going to blow all this up…what was it? 700 homes?” Yah what a shame, it’s a pretty place.” The banality of it.

It feels like being told a friend is ill. The thought of losing the space to houses tears me apart. I don’t know if I could handle living here if I had to see that land being torn apart everyday.

Now that I know this space is going to be ruined by humans I want to spread the word about this beautiful land. My invitation is to come and see her while you can. I know that some of it will be a preserved open space, but you may never be able to take the photos of the great compositions the glade offers without some house in it soon.

Spread the word. Visit the Glade. Come and love this land. Look for petrified wood and quartz. Take what you can before it becomes buried in housing.
To get to the glade, use Google Maps to get to Mesa Middle School in Castle Rock. This is the address:

I have a map of the trail for you here. The red circle and green circle are the main places you can park and enter. The red circle may have construction trucks or vehicles going forward. So if it is empty, that’s a good place to start. If there is activity there, I’d recommend going to the green. The trail is easy to follow with just one space over the rocks that gets a little hard to follow.

I’m inviting you to come and love this space. Come and enjoy it. It’s remarkable. Get here and meditate, take some photos while the views are still open, and collect some petrified wood before it's buried under asphalt. Bring your friends. Spread the word.

If you would like a grand tour, let me know. I’m happy to meet you and arrange some times to be your guide.
